Location: Illinois: I was assaulted by my ex boyfriend and threatened with an axe. He used the axe to damage my furniture. The police came and allowed him to leave. He then returned and scratched my car. He also called the police on me, lying to say I stole from him, and was subsequently arrested. He's had multiple domestic battery misdemeanors and felonies in the past and is currently violating the no contact order in place. However, the ADA called and gave me the burden of deciding if he should get a felony or misdemeanor. Is this normal? While I feel he needs to pay for his actions past and present (he only did 4 months for a felony the last time) I don't want to be the one to possibly give this man years in prison. Yes, it's deserved, but it's a heavy choice to make. Why would I have to decide this?

Good evening, is it normal to not have any communication with your lawyer until the day of your court date? My lawyer does not communicate with me until the day of court. For reference: I was charged with felony theft of $40 (enhanced because of it being a school or place of worship) & burglary. I have not been in trouble before and have no clue what is normal and what is not. She did not come to my first appearance and I had to YouTube what to do at a first appearance. From then on, she has failed to email me paperwork when she says she will and does not communicate at all. Location: Illinois
