Husband ghosted me 4 years ago, do I need to find him to get a divorce? | Aug 28, 2026 | Sourced from the original Reddit post
Location: Cook County Illinois. Four years ago I (33F) gave my husband (34M) an ultimatum in our relationship and three months later I came home from work to a note that he would be in touch about a divorce and all his things gone. Since that day I have not been able to have any contact with him and I believe that he has left the state entirely. At that time we had been married 4 years and in a relationship for 10. We have no kids, no shared assets, no joint accounts. All I care about is ending this marriage once and for all and being completely free from any connection with him. Do I need to know where he is to serve him? Is there anything I can do on my own to actually go through with the process of ending it legally or does he have to be found first? Is spousal abandonment a thing that I can realistically pursue or do I have to put that effort into finding him? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Wife makes more | Aug 16, 2026 | Sourced from the original Reddit post
I am the wife who makes significantly more than my spouse - I want to file for divorce. He is an addict and is now also cheating. He was making around 100k and was fired from his job 3 months ago. I started making 400k about 4 months ago (made 200k or less prior 10 years). 2 kids. married 13 years. I am scared of filing because I am going to be totally screwed due to this new income increase. The only thing he has going for him is his 401k that is $1.5M and I have around 950k. His 401k is this large as he does amature trading in it and spends hours on it daily. He will also get a big inheritance $1M+ (which I know I have no right over). We have a home together and I am ok splitting it. I know I will owe spousal support but will he also take my 401k? Would I get part of his 401k? Location: Illinois USA
