Location: Illinois My lease was up July 1, but I did not receive notice that my renewal was ready to sign until August 4. They gave me three dates to come in and sign (Fri 8/7, Mon 8/10, Tues 8/11). I took Monday the 10th off to sign the paperwork, and they said I owed an extra $200 for late fees for the months of July and August (they confirmed later it was actually supposed to be $100: they mistakenly marked me late for May & June as well). This same 2-month same delay happened last year when it came time for me to renew my lease. At the time, they said (and I believed) the delay was because they had just been bought by a different property management company and they didn't have the correct paperwork in time. I was not charged any late fees for that delay. Would I be on the hook for late fees if they did not provide me a lease to sign for the two months I was late? Extra info: this property is part of a federal affordable housing program.

Location: Chicago--I'm hoping to get some perspective from attorneys or anyone familiar with Illinois and Cook County landlord-tenant laws. My landlord (a big corporate-owned company) offered me a one-year lease renewal earlier this year in March and I signed it immediately. After signing it, I didn't give it any more thought. Unbeknownst to me, the leasing office never signed their copy, so the lease was still not complete. Then in May, out of nowhere they served me with a notice of non-renewal, claiming I committed a lease violation because I had a bird feeder on my balcony that allegedly attracted pigeons. I removed the bird feeder immediately and asked them to reconsider, but they refused. I should add that my rent is PIF each month, on time, so I carry zero balance with this property manager. The notice of non-renewal also states that I "did not sign" the renewal agreement, which is false—I signed it months earlier. Their explanation is that because they never signed their copy, they were able to withdraw the renewal and terminate my tenancy. There are a couple of additional things... I received an email in April asking me to keep my balcony cleaner, and I complied by cleaning it weekly. I then got the flu and missed about two weeks, during which bird droppings accumulated. Separately, after receiving the non-renewal notice, I made a poor decision one night while extremely upset and threw some plants and debris onto the balcony of a vacant neighboring unit.…

Location: Illinois I am trying to get my case together need to know how far I should take this. I had a prior arrangement with the now former management of my apartment complex and was catching up on rent due to losing my job. At the time of being told I was being evicted I was 2 months behind. New management came saying "We do not do payment arrangements” and that I was being evicted. I have receipts from the property of my partial payments.They gave my mom a post it of the case number and their attorneys phone number. I was never served so of course i got a continuance. The reason why prior management was working with me I imagine is because of the poor condition my unit was in on move in date. I have time stamped photo evidence as well as the original lease. Unit was unfinished with light fixtures hanging off of their wires and tools and debris littered the carpet. My refrigerator went out 2-3 months after move in I contacted them about it and was told they were unaware of when the issue would be fixed. I have the timestamped email. I had to get one from Aarons. I currently do not have a refrigerator in my unit because I could not afford it any longer. Today my mom was taking a bath and heard voices. Location: IL USA Hi this is about my mother in law, she lives in Illinois, United States. My MIL had a roommate. There was no contract. He was some guy she met at the grocery store. He needed a place to live and she's on a fixed income. She decided to help him out. After a few months he stopped paying for his room and board and she reported to us that he was acting hostile towards her. She went to the police. They evicted him and she filed a restraining order against him. After the eviction the police escorted him to his old room to collect his belongings. He took almost all of his belongings, except his pets. He left his pet fish. We're trying to re-home them but would there be any legal issues I would need to be concerned about if he contacts us about getting his pet fish back after we find new homes for them?

Location: Illinois The property manager and I left on bad terms and I have moved to a different apartment. I did not want to share my address but I gave them a forwarding mail and my current email address to send my secruity deposit back. I requested to have the itemized list of charges applied for damages as well. If i were to go to small claims later on, can't they simply say they mailed it and It is my fault for losing it?
