Practice Areas: General Practice, Intellectual Property
I am the founding member of Kelleher Patent Law. During and after engineering school, I had several contract engineering positions, which included product development, manufacturing process improvements, failure analysis. This experience has helped me better understand the development hurdles a client will see while developing, testing and manufacturing their product. As a strategic and tactical thinker, I am able to better understand the variations that clients’ products may undergo which has allowed me to produce better patent applications. I have successfully prosecuted a variety of patent applications and trademark registrations.. I feel that the inventions, technology and new businesses created today are the problem solvers that will help move us past the predicaments of today. Through my ability to interact, understand new ideas and see alternatives, has helped me develop into an effective and efficient patent attorney. I enjoy working with these inventors and entrepreneurs to help them understand how to best protect their new businesses and products.

In my second year of college I took a Civil Liberties course, studying the constitutional rights that make our country great. The course was taught by a lawyer, and it convinced me that I'd enjoy a career in law. After graduating from George Washington University Law School in 1981, I took a job at the Legal Aid Office in Syracuse, where I was a trial attorney for five years. I handled mostly criminal trials, with some general civil work. We were a busy office, helping thousands of clients and litigating cases regularly. I found it rewarding to be able to help others, and to advocate for causes I believed in. I felt that our good work went far in bettering the lives of those Syracuse residents most in need.. In 1986, my wife and I moved to Kingston, and I have been working at Ryan, Roach & Ryan ever since. I've continued to handle trial work and appeals. Much of my practice is now devoted to wills and probate, corporate matters and real estate. As much as ever, I still enjoy helping my clients navigate through their legal problems. I see myself as a problem solver who happens to be a lawyer. I still enjoy the challenge of working to understand a problem, then working to solve it. For me, patience is the key to understanding. The more I learn about a problem, the more confident I am about confronting it.. I am an active volunteer in our community. I was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ulster County Bar Association for ten years, ultimately serving as President in 1998-99. I continue to act as a volunteer judge for high school mock trial competitions. I coached CYO boys basketball and girls softball for many years for my children's teams. I enjoy bicycling, and regularly participate in cycling fundraisers.
