John McCabe

1130 Kildaire Farm Road , Cary , North Carolina 27511
Practice Areas: Personal Injury
From the time John was 8 years old, he wanted to be a lawyer. After living in San Francisco and New York, John spent most of his childhood growing up in North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and Campbell University School of Law. While at Campbell, John was named to two national moot court teams, and the law school's faculty recognized him as one of the nation's best, up-and-coming lawyers. After graduating from Campbell with honors, John initially worked for a law firm that defended claims filed by injured people. After seeing from the inside how insurance companies and big business attempt to work the legal system to maximize their own profits, John quickly realized that accident victims needed a strong and aggressive advocate to stand up and fight for them. So, in 1995, he changed firms and since then, he has focused exclusively on representing people throughout the country who have been injured by trucking collisions, medical negligence, defective products, and on-the-job accidents.. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, one of John's most notable achievements occurred in 2000 when he represented a young mother and her daughter in a case against the State of North Carolina for serious injuries that they suffered when their mini-van was struck head-on by a Department of Transportation dump truck. At that time, a damages cap limited the amount of damages that could be recovered from the State of North Carolina to a maximum of $150,000, which was less than half of the mother's medical bills. Through John's efforts and against considerable odds, he was not only able to persuade the General Assembly to increase the cap to $500,000, but he also instituted ground-breaking lawsuits that resulted in the family recovering a settlement that was more than 10 times the amount initially offered by the State.. John is licensed to practice law in all North Carolina federal and state courts, and he is a very active member of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. John devotes a considerable amount of his time to teaching legal concepts and advocacy skills to other attorneys and law students, and his articles are frequently published throughout the State.. In his free time, John coaches a youth basketball team, and he serves as an extraordinary minister, lecturer, and mass coordinator at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh.  He enjoys basketball, softball, running, biking, music, and traveling with his wife, Rebecca.

John Jones

Practice Areas: Birth Injury, Class Action, Defective Products, Medical Malpractice, Class Action, Class Action
John Alan Jones is the founding member and managing partner of Martin & Jones, where he has worked since he began practicing law in 1982.  John Alan was born and raised in Pine Level, North Carolina.  He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society.  After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1979, he entered law school at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Holderness Moot Court.. Upon graduating from law school in 1982, John Alan began representing workers with occupational diseases caused by toxic chemicals and cotton dust.  His practice soon became statewide.  He represented hundreds of North Carolina workers in these occupational disease cases, which led to an interest in both medicine and product liability claims.  In the mid-1980's, he began representing people who had been injured by major corporations manufacturing toxic chemicals, asbestos, defective pharmaceuticals and harmful medical devices.. From 1984 until 1997, he successfully represented approximately 1,100 women from 28 states who had been injured by the Dalkon Shield IUD.  Indeed, he obtained a large plaintiff's verdict in the last Dalkon Shield case tried in the United States.  In 1988 he first agreed to represent someone injured by medical malpractice.  He tried and won his first medical malpractice case in 1990, and he has successfully represented medical malpractice victims throughout North Carolina, having tried these cases from the mountains to the coast.  He now heads the firm's medical malpractice group, which is comprised of 5 attorneys and 12 support staff.  John Alan continues to devote a large percentage of his practice to representing individuals catastrophically injured by medical negligence, defective pharmaceuticals, toxic substances or other negligence.. He also devotes a significant amount of his work time to consumer class action litigation and representing small businesses victimized by unfair business practices of major corporations.  John Alan served as lead counsel on behalf of thousands of consumers in class actions against major banks arising from predatory lending practices.  After more than seven years of litigation, John Alan and partner Chris Olson settled predatory lending class actions against a Bank of America subsidiary, NationsCredit, for $38,750,000 and a CitiBank subsidiary, Citifinancial, for $42,500,000.  Each of these class actions went to the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court, resulting in landmark appellate decisions providing protection for North Carolina consumers and providing compensation to more than 12,000 North Carolina consumers.. John Alan does not limit his law practice to the state of North Carolina.  He handles both trial and appellate work in state and federal courts throughout North Carolina and around the U.S.  He has received Martindale-Hubbell's "AV" peer review rating, which is the highest rating given.  Due to recognition by other attorneys from around North Carolina, John Alan has been recognized by the following organizations:. John Alan is married and has two young children.  He happily spends most of his free time with family activities, but he also enjoys saltwater fishing and travel.
