Location: Tennessee. I work hourly for a small dental billing company. Since June, everyone in my role has been assigned one online training module each week. They usually take me 20 to 30 minutes and the system records the exact completion time. Our schedule is fixed. When I added 25 minutes of training to my timesheet last month, payroll returned it and told me to enter only my scheduled hours. I then tried completing the next module during my shift, but my supervisor told me that the patient queue had priority and that training should be finished “on your own time.” The modules are marked required, have Sunday deadlines, and we get reminder emails if they are incomplete. I am not salaried and I have not signed anything saying this training is voluntary. Missing a module also affects our monthly performance review. So far I have kept the assignement emails, the returned timesheet, and screenshots showing when I completed each module. Is required job training like this generally compensable time for an hourly employee in Tennessee? If so, what records should I keep before raising the issue formally?

As stated in the title my last work place will not give me my final pay check. I should have actually received this check on July 10th but I did not. I called the manager that day to ask why I did not receive my direct deposit and he claimed it was because I was told to turn in any work shirts I had (which I actually was never told this). He refused to pay me until today and only if I got the shirt back, I did get the shirt back but once again did not receive my last check. I honestly do not have any idea what to do now because I should have received it already and have not so I know once again I will not. This is a large business as well and I had never heard of anything like this before and looked into it. They cannot even legally withhold my pay over company property to begin with and I already returned it now anyway. Any help or recommendations of what I should do next, I am in between jobs and really needed my check. Also I feel like he is just going to give me another excuse when I call and claim I will get it next time which is just not true obviously. Thanks so much in advance. Location: Tennessee
