Location: Utah Hello and thank you to all who read this I started a new job almost a year ago and this is something that has bothered all of our crew ever since this has been a “policy” in the company. Little bit of backstory, I work in trade so I’m in construction sites all the time and our main office is usually about 45 minutes to 2+ hours away from the job sites. We all get paid hourly and we have to log our “drive time” for when we’re driving from site to site to be able to track our hours which I understand. However, my issue rises when they pay us different wages (minimum wage) during our return drive time back to the main office. Nobody ever knew that would be the case when they first got in to the job. We all had to ask HR about why we were getting paid differently on our drive time and it was because it was “policy”. I personally never read anything in the entire employee guidelines and policies that stated that employees will make a different wage at different times of their job. It was never put in writing. It was never said to me by management or HR during my onboarding process. I only realized it after my first paycheck when I noticed I was making minimum wage for a portion of my hours. Location: Utah Worked at a daycare for 3 years. Was verbally abused and had no support with hard behaviors the kids had. Expected to restrain kids when they get in fights, not being trained in any of that (also restraints are illegal) Had multiple kids with autism in the different classes and we were never taught how to help them, only to sit them in high chairs or time outs for a long period. Only being told what I do wrong. Got yelled at for saying that I wished I was in a different class, not doing anything about it, just saying it. Told we have to clock out for bathroom breaks. Always being lied to and talked about behind my back. Would sit down with kids who have behaviors and try to talk to them and listen and got punished for it and told I'm not good at dealing with them. Just breaking me and the others down. Location: Utah I have been placed on administrative leave from my position at the county municipal shelter. I had a brief meeting with HR where there informed me they were preparing to potentially terminate. My boss has stated I have performance issues and have violated policy regarding euthanasia approval forms. My issue is I have been employed for three years, have never received any disciplinary actions, was not aware I was not meeting expectations, or that I was violating policy. Each euthanasia form that I was shown had been signed off and approved by my boss. Is it worth hiring an employment lawyer to seek guidance and have attend my loudermill hearing? I do not believe that there is a legal justification for termination. From an outside perspective would you feel I have a fighting chance of staying employed? My boss has been under investigation three times in the year she has been employed for the county, including hostile work environment complaints. I have also been informed from coworkers that she has told staff that she "does not employ criminals" and I will not be returning.

Location: Utah, USA Hey guys, I am a diesel mechanic performing fleet maintenance exclusively on class 8 trucks owned and operated by the company that employs me. The company is privately owned and classified as a contract carrier. I am paid base rate for work over 40 hours in seeming contradiction to FLSA and anything I've read on utah labor law. According to a rumor being spread around the shop, they get away with this by classifying the mechanics as agricultural employees. The company doesn't have any connection to farming outside of transporting food under some of the private freight contracts. From what I've read about agricultural employee definitions under utah law, there's no reason I could be considered one. I don't expect there's a great solution outside of just moving to another employer, but I'm wanting to know if there's any way they aren't just blatantly violating the law here. Thanks!
