Location: Snohomish County Washington State USA Hello all. I have been divorced for 3 years. Per our parenting plan, my ex is supposed to talk things over regarding medical care for our 12 year old daughter. She does, however she seems to purposely go outside of my insurance network to get care for our daughter, in order for me to have to pay more. (This isn't the place for a deeper dive, but please know this is historically proven). I am on a VERY tight budget with rent, bills, child support alimony etc. As of today I have been given paperwork by the Division of Child support from my ex claiming that I am not paying my share of the costs. She is correct in this regard as I have been unable to secure a loan in order to facilitate my end. I have already talked this over with the medical provider and am making minimal payments regarding this matter. What is the purpose of her having DCS give me paperwork, telling me something I already know? It's being worked. I simply do not have the finances on hand to instantly resolve this debt and am working with the provider. My payments have been on time (they are automatically pulled from my check from my employer). Location: Canada I live in Quebec, Canada, and my child’s father lives in Washington State. He is listed on the birth certificate and paternity is established, but we currently don’t have a formal child support order in place. I’ve been trying to understand the process, but I was told by legal aid that because Quebec and Washington don’t have a direct agreement for enforcing child support, I will have to start legal proceedings in both places, which means paying for a lawyer here and another lawyer there. Is there another process I should look into before hiring lawyers in two jurisdictions? I’m trying to understand my options and avoid unnecessary legal costs if there’s a simpler route. Any advice would be appreciated.
