(a) The speaker of the senate may administer the official oath to any senators-elect, in the presence of the senate. (b) The speaker of the house of representatives may administer the official oath to any members-elect of the house of representatives, in the presence of the house. (c) The speaker of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives may also administer the oath of office to the clerks and doorkeepers of their respective houses. (d) (1) The members of the general assembly may administer the official oath of office for any local public official of any municipality or county, including any county having metropolitan form of government, or any other political subdivision of the state. (2) For purposes of this section, "local public official" means a person elected or appointed to any office or entity of local government. Amended by 2014 Tenn. Acts, ch. 576,s 1, eff. 3/28/2014.
