Standards recommendation committee - Science and social studies

(a) Prior to the next adoption of academic standards in the subjects of science and social studies, the state board of education shall establish a process whereby the board shall receive recommendations from a standards recommendation committee appointed in the same manner as the standards recommendation committee created in § 49-1-312 . (b) (1) The standards recommendation committee shall make the final recommendations as to the new set of standards for science and social studies to the state board of education. (2) The state board of education may adopt, reject, or make technical nonsubstantive revisions to the standards recommended by the committee, but the state board of education shall adopt a set of standards in science and social studies that fit the needs of Tennessee students in kindergarten through grade twelve (K-12).
