I attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with honors in 1978. After moving to Maine, I enrolled at the University of Maine School of Law in 1980.  While in law school, I served as the Articles Editor for the University of Maine Law Review and graduated cum laude in 1983. I was admitted to practice law in the Maine State Courts and the United States District Court for the District of Maine later that year.. Upon graduating from law school, I enjoyed the privilege of clerking for a year for the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. I subsequently entered private practice, serving Personal Injury clients throughout Maine, and eventually joined Fales & Fales, P.A. Today, I owns the firm with my husband,  Anthony K. Ferguson, who joined the firm in 1986.
