I believe that the most important part of the attorney-client relationship is trust and honesty. I strive to provide those qualities, and more, to each of my clients because I fully recongnize that my role has a direct impact on their personal life and well being. I approach each case with this understanding and therefore work to protect their interests, especially their future interests.
I began practicing law because I wanted to help people. Working for a large law firm initially gave me exposure to different types of legal matters, but it did not provide the contact with clients that I desired. In 2004, I opened my own practice and have thoroughly enjoyed working directly with my clients to help solve their complex legal problems.. When I first opened my practice, I was fortunate to have two senior attorneys mentor me in employment law. They encouraged me to appeal three of my racial discrimination lawsuits to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and I was hooked. During the beginning years of my own practice, I was also fortunate to assist in the adoption of two of my nephews. Adoption law is very near and dear to my heart, and I have no greater pleasure than to help adoptive parents and their adoptive children.. Working with clients through some of the most difficult times in their lives is rewarding to me. Many of my clients are repeat customers, referrals, and friends. I keep my clients fully informed of all action I take on their behalf, and return telephone calls within 24 hours. I can be a “bulldog” when necessary, but I am to obtain the best results for my clients in all matters.. In 2017, I opened Everett Law, PLLC to further my employment, family and adoption law practice. I always place the client and their needs first and foremost. If you are looking for an attorney who will zealously advocate on your behalf, please contact me at to set up a consultation.. I look forward to meeting you!

What does this mean for you? It means that I will work with you throughout your case to make sure you obtain the best possible settlement. I am a keen believer that your family issues should be resolved by ensuring that you have control over the outcome rather than a stranger, such as a Judge. While we have some excellent judges in Mecklenburg, Gaston, and the surrounding counties, I encourage my clients to work hard to resolve their issues through mediation, collaborative law sessions, settlement meetings or judicial settlement conferences.. You might be wondering what happens if we cannot settle outside of court. If we cannot settle your case, then we fight. I have had the opportunity to attend some of the best trial advocacy training programs in the country. I am a graduate of the NITA Family Trial Advocacy Institute, which admits only 40 students each year. If we cannot resolve your case outside of court, you can trust that I will aggressively represent you in trial.. I am a local girl. I am passionate about using my training as a mediator and collaborative lawyer (and my time having taught negotiaiton & conflict resolution skills in law school and continuing legal education) to help people and businesses resolve complex disputes in as cost-effective a manner as possible.. Conflict is always expensive-- particularly in terms of the time, stress, energy, and money that often have to be spent dealing with it. The litgaition process is one way to resolve conflict and disputes, but it is not the only way. And it is rarely if ever the most efficient, quickest, affordable, or enjoyable way. Not a single client has ever approached me after a trial or after having his or her deposition taken and said, "Wow, that was so much fun! Let's do it again soon, shall we?" And never has a client who paid me to take a matter all the way through depositions, hearings, and trial ever thought I didn't get paid enough for my efforts, and decided to throw in a little something extra for my efforts because he or she felt bad for me.. If you allow our firm the privilege of reviewing your complex family law or business or probate administration dipsute, we will be sure to evaluate all the options avaialble for protecting or enforcing your rights. If your case is a fit for a collborative law approah, anf the other side can be persuaded to come to the same conlcusion--for the sake of saving everyone time, money, and stress, then we are uniquiely positioned to assit If filing a suit--or defending yourself in one that has already been filed against you-- is the most cost-effective means of addressing the situation, given the amount in controversy, personalities, interpersonal dynamics, and complexity of the legal issues presented, then we will pursure that route vigorously. But we will always keep our eyes open for avenues of resolving the dispute more quickly or affordably, whenever possible--whether thru mediaiton or some form of collaborative law process.
I am passionate about the law and I care about my clients. These qualities make me a strong advocate to have on your side during this very difficult time in your life. As a mother, I know how much your children mean to you and how you would do anything to shelter them from harm. Children are often the innocent victims in their parents’ divorce. While it may be impossible to shield them entirely from the impact of your divorce, I will work with you to minimize the impact on your children as much as possible. My goal is to educate you regarding North Carolina law and how it applies to your case, so that you understand all your options. Divorce can be a terrifying experience, but I will empower you with the knowledge of what to expect every step of the way. I majored in mathematics and then worked in the banking industry for many years prior to becoming an attorney, so I have a strong financial background to handle complex financial support and property division cases. I’ve represented clients in Brunswick, Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Rowan, Alexander, Iredell, Catawba, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston and Union counties, on matters involving child custody, child support, equitable distribution, post-separation support, alimony, contempt, and breach of contract claims. Not every case requires litigation, and many cases can be resolved out of court using alternative dispute resolution methods such as collaborative law, arbitration, and mediation. But if litigation becomes necessary, you can rely on my years of trial experience to protect your interests in the courtroom.
I am originally from Gastonia, NC. Thus, I have lived in the Charlotte area the majority of my life. I thoroughly enjoy the many things this city, and the surrounding suburbs have to offer.. In my sparse spare time, I enjoy competitive sports. My primary interests are basketball and golf personally, though I'm a big football fan. My family is a big part of my life.. My practice is a large part of my life. I started my firm because I'm independent, and I wanted to do things my way. I personally interact with each client on a direct basis. I believe the results of my cases indicate there is a part of me in each file. I work hard at what I do.
I am often asked why I practice in an area of law that is filled with so much sadness, grief, and heart-wrenching conversations. It’s a legitimate question especially if you know me. The truth is, I am very emotional. I am a crier; I feel my emotions strongly. I am immensely empathetic to people. After the passing of my uncle, I saw these descriptors of myself not as flaws anymore but as true strengths...strengths others could rely on and depend on.. Good and bad “things” happen every day to every one of us. These “things” are what make us who we are. How we allow the “things” to affect our lives is what shapes our future. My uncle’s passing twenty years ago was my “thing”. It was the “thing” that mapped out my future.. My uncle had a great sense of humor and a lackadaisical attitude about life. The kids in the neighborhood called him the “Candy Man” because every time he came to visit, he would have a trunk full of candy to pass out to all of us! He never forgot a birthday…ever!!! Without fail there would be money taped to the inside of our card with a “silly self-portrait” he would draw of himself.. My uncle was happy to a fault. Nothing ever concerned him; nothing ever had a sense of urgency for him. Life was life and it was what it was going to be. He was a happy man during his life. The unanswerable question has always been and will always be…was he happy at the end of his life? I don’t know the answer to that and yet I was there when he took his last breath. I think of him often and always wonder what he must have been thinking? Was his pain anything like the heartache his family went through having to watch him slowly lose a little bit of himself?. I questioned so much; questions which after twenty years still cannot be answered. Was he regretting brushing me aside when I would try to talk to him about getting his documents in place? If he had to do it over again, would he? Would it make a difference to him knowing at the end how emotionally beaten my father was after he died? Would he have done anything differently if he knew the heartbreak his family would suffer not being able to help him with his pain? What if he knew those that he held dear to his heart would be petty about the “stuff” he left behind?. It was gut-wrenching to see my father watch his brother die and wonder what my uncle was thinking as he saw us all by his bedside. Was he proud of the funeral and service we had for him or was he up in Heaven laughing at all of us because we were all such emotional fools? Did we do what he wanted?. No family should ever have to live with the burden of having to make the decisions my father had to make. We felt alone and hopeless with so many questions yet no one made any efforts to answer any for us. No one should live with doubt; always asking themselves if they did the right thing. No loved one should bear the pain of watching a family member die when there are so many alternate ways in which to manage their end of life.. The Firm’s purpose is to be the hand you reach for to guide you in planning for the worst day of your life and the hand your family holds during the worst day of their life.
