I volunteer as an Elder for my church (Sunrise Church in Rialto, CA ) and I am the Commandant of the Marine Corps League Detachment #1459 in Redlands CA.  I volunteer and support veteran causes.  I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1990-1994.. I am a Certified Specialist in Family Law, and have practiced family law exclusively on the Peninsula since 1983.   I have a special interest in alternative dispute resolution, which includes mediation, acting as a mediation consultant, and representing clients in negotiating settlements with the help of private judges, but I also represent clients in the public courts in both San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.   I also frequently work with clients from throughout the Bay Area to prepare premarital agreements.

Lydia E. Crandall is an associate in the Family Law Group.  Lydia began work with the Family Law Group in 2004 as a law clerk. She clerked with the firm throughout law school and became an associate of the firm in 2007.. While completing her law degree, Lydia served as senior editor of the Golden Gate University Law Review and was a member of the law school’s Moot Court Board. She was also selected to participate in the intensive Honors Lawyering Program.. Lydia handles a variety of family law matters including dissolution of marriage cases, post-judgment support and custody modifications, as well as premarital and postmarital agreements.  She has been trained as a mediator and in Collaborative Practice.. Lydia has been named a Northern California Rising Star every year since 2009 by Super Lawyers Magazine. She served as Co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the San Mateo County Bar Association in 2010 and as Chair in 2011.  She is currently co-chair of Collaborative Practice of San Mateo County and the Family Law Section of the Palo Alto Bar Association.  Lydia has also co-authored articles on disclosure obligations and attorney’s fees and sanctions in family law cases.. That doesn’t change the fact that creating a family is among the most noble things we will ever do. Ending a marriage and altering the shape of a family system must be handled with the same sanctity of purpose as starting one.. A divorce is painful, terrifying, and sometimes overwhelming…but it can also be an opportunity for growth and healing. After graduating law school in 2017, I joined the Santa Clara Law faculty and taught Appellate Advocacy, Advanced Legal Writing, and co-taught Civil Procedure. My legal scholarship and publications focus on reproductive and life-extension biotechnologies, competitive governance, and economic analysis of law.
