Car accident

I was on the location: George Washington bridge in New York on Friday when a car was trying to enter my lane because it had missed its exit. it hit the left side of my car. my car only sustained scrapes scratches and a dent but the other guys car was really scraped and it’s rear door was damaged. the thing is I only have a permit as of right now because I’m in the process of trying to get my license. I’ve been driving for quite some time (i used to drive in Albania). I’ve never done this before so I don’t know what to do and what to say. I just don’t want my permit suspended. it is entirely the other guys fault because I was driving at speed limit, in my own lane and I have video footage to prove that. i was driving my mothers car when I got hit but my mother was not in the car with me there was not a 21+ licensed driver in my car. I exchanged registration, and insurance. the police didn’t arrive thankfully. what was a accidents lawyer say or do? How do I proceed
