[WI] Neighbor’s Mailbox Located on My Property

Location: Wisconsin I recently purchased a residential property in Wisconsin that consists of two lots under a single tax parcel identification number. The house is situated on the far side of one lot, while the other lot is primarily open grass and trees. My next-door neighbor’s house is built very close to the property line. Because their driveway leaves little room for a mailbox on the far side, their mailbox is currently located within my property line and appears to have been there for some time. I would like advice regarding the potential legal consequences of allowing the mailbox to remain in its current location. In particular: Could continued use of this portion of my property eventually give the neighbor an easement, adverse-possession claim, prescriptive right, or any other legal interest? Should I notify the neighbor in writing that the mailbox is on my property and that I am permitting its placement only temporarily or by revocable permission? Would a written license agreement or a nominal annual payment, say $10 per year, help establish that the placement is permissive and does not create a permanent property right? Are there any postal regulations, local ordinances, deed restrictions, survey issues, or title-insurance considerations that I should review before deciding how to proceed? I do not currently object to the mailbox for appearance or practical reasons, and I would prefer to maintain a good relationship with the neighbors. Moving it could be inconvenient and awkward, and the most likely alternative location would place it in the middle of their yard on the other side of the driveway. My goal is to accommodate them if possible while protecting my property rights. What steps would you recommend, and would you advise documenting the arrangement in writing?
