Location: California I operate a company vehicle that is stored at my residence when not in use. Long story short, the company van got towed from my apartment complex, and my company is saying that since I'm at fault I have to pay them back for getting the van from the towing company. Since I don't have the money they said they would deduct it from my next paycheck. That was a week ago, and this is my last week working here. Today I received an email from my manager asking me to sign a "payroll wage deduction authorization" which essentially says: "I, [Name] acknowledge that I was issued a traffic charge ... including towing ... while operating a company vehicle owned by [Company] ... I understand and agree that this is my financial responsibility and not the Company's ... I further agree that in the event my employemnt terminates ... prior to the full repayment of the total amount [previously stated] the Company may withhold the remaining amount owed from my final pay, except to the extent prohibited by applicable law. I represent that this authorization is executed voluntarily and has not been made as a condition of my continued employment." Then a spot to sign my name below. That last sentence sticks out to me. Location: California, US My job pays a base salary plus commission with a monthly sales quota. Today my boss told me he's changing my monthly commission structure from a tiered system of 0.5% below goal/1% hit goal/1.5% if over 125% of goal, to a flat 0.5% no matter what. I've had this commission structure the entire time I've worked for this boss. I have no written employment contract with him but I have/had one from my old boss (previous owner of the business I work for) and was told nothing would change with new ownership. I have been getting paid based on the 0.5/1/1.5% structure the last 4 months with new ownership, and several months before that with old ownership. I also have my commission calculation spreadsheets for the past 4 months, one showing my sales totals and that I've earned the 1% one of those months. I am 100% certain I will be exceeding my goal this month, potentially over 125%. I accept they want to change my paid commission structure going forward, but can he actually change it retroactively for the whole month of August even though I've been working this whole month assuming I'd be compensated at my usual commission rate? I'd potentially be losing out on $1000-2000 on my next commission check. Location: California Assisting a senior family member with a fight they’re having with what is essentially an HOA/landlord hybrid non-profit My relative had a visitor that’s banned from the area they live in. The bylaws of the HOA lay out both the process for any sort of formal notification (USPS mail to last known address) and the procedure for punitive fines (first notice is a warning, followed by additional notices to include fines). Their Board levied fines after a verbal notification at a membership meeting that never had a follow-up formal written notice. They (the board) have since fined my relative additional times for the same violation when the circumstances were beyond their control (break-ins and the like). The fines are currently $1000 (for the record, the first fine is supposed to start at $25 and they started at $500) and my family member has refused to pay them. Now the HOA board is attempting to expel them for nonpayment (which would lead to an eviction). I’m trying to assist my family member fight the fines and this proposed expulsion but don’t know what their best avenue is. Small claims court? Something involving breach of contract? The HOA board is unsympathetic and are known for shady behavior. Could they recoup the cost of obtaining a mediator from the HOA if it came to that?

Location: California So we live in an apartment where everyone talks and I found out by the handyman that the guy who hit my car lives on the third floor. They know who he is but he mentions that the police didn't want to investigate. I overheard the policemen talk among themselves and mentioned a car parked damaged covered in a tarp the day of the accident. The apartment manager took pics of the vehicle but was no help but was told on this sub because of a liability issue. I'm not sure if those photos were sent to the police or if they even took photos themselves which I feel like they should have. I also already have the police report but no one is mentioned as the responsible party. This happened July 12, I have the video of the car hitting ours ( there were about 3-4 cars hit (no license plate but the car could possibly be matched or even questioned where it went ( they towed the car once the cops left as noted by some neighbors) All I got was by the policemen card with the report details and told me to let my insurance do the rest. I just hate that I'm the one paying 1,000 and waiting weeks to get it fixed. Finally it is getting fixed but I just don't like that there is no justice. Is there anything I can do? Make a complaint to the police department?

location: California I have tried so much to stop this: several dozen contacts to lawyers to try to enlist help, aid organizations (quick denials—don't meet basic requirements like the correct ZIP code or skin color), my own court filings (link below redacted most recent filing, the content of which the judge essentially ignored informing me that I could not be considered without representation). I've most recently been trying to secure a last-minute mover with storage to at least try to preserve my things (have nowhere to go and am homeless now without all personal effects, meds, IDs, keys to vehicles and vehicles themselves, work items and computers, etc. due to the abusive sheriff's lockout that disallowed me from gathering essentials). It's hard to do all this, maintain a job, and pack at the same time. The disposal people are going to come tomorrow to throw out all my stuff...? (Is what is going to happen from my understanding.) What happened? My biggest surprise was the failure of the judiciary to uphold the law as set forth by statute and precedent, something that in America you're raised to believe is sacred and always available to ensure "liberty and justice for all." My immigrant fiancee, Jane Doe in the document, feels similarly misled and now jaded. I don't really know what to do.
