Melissa (Meira) Amster has dedicated her law career to special education and disability law. She seeks to help parents attain maximum potential through advocacy. Her passion in this area of law comes from personal experience. In October 2011, her daughter was born with Down syndrome and a heart defect which required open heart surgery. At first she found the process of attending to her daughter’s medical and physical needs overwhelming, but soon found online support groups. These support gave her valuable information and encouragement to advocate for her daughter.Over the years her advocacy skills increased, as well as her passion for helping others. Ms. Amster found a wide discrepancy in services that children might receive correlated to how good of an advocate or how knowledgeable about services their parent was. The better the advocate, more services the child might receive. Ms. Amster strongly believes that all people with disabilities, not just ones that have better advocates, should receive all needed available services. With this passion in-hand, she began volunteering with the Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy, Disability Rights California. She was later a temporary Clients’ Right Advocate. There she focused on evaluating regional center eligibility, securing appropriate placements, and analyzing and giving legal advice regarding notices of action from the regional center.Ms. Amster is very thankful for her advocacy skills and all she has accomplished on behalf of her daughter. Realizing her own daughter is not the only person with a disability who is in need of advocacy, the Amster Law Firm was formed to advocate on the behalf others with disabilities.

I am a mother. I am a lawyer. I specilaize in childrens law, specifically adoption, assisted reproduction technology law, school discipline and special education.. Passion for public service led me to a career in the Orange County District Attorney's Office where I served as a prosecutor for 16 years. During that time, I completed over 100 criminal trials. I was assigned to Juvenile Court for a year and a half early in my career. I felt very strongly about my responsibility, even as a prosecutor, to do what was in the best interest of the child.. After felony panel, I was assigned to vertically prosecute felony domestic violence cases. I also specialized in legal research and writing for several years. I researched, wrote, and argued over 250 felony motions, and I argued before the Court of Appeal. I also developed and conducted training for the Orange County District Attorney's Office, various police agencies, colleges, and law schools. For outstanding service to victims and witnesses of domestic violence, I was awarded the "Courts Community Service Award" by Victim Assistance Programs, CSP, Inc. I was also recognized as a "Diligent Prosecutor" by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).. I taught as an adjunct professor at Western State School of Law in 2004 and 2005, teaching one class on research and writing, and two classes on domestic violence.. In 2009, I earned my L.L.M. in Prosecutorial Science, at Chapman University School of Law. My studies included Advanced Professional Responsibility, Advanced Criminal Procedure, Appellate Practice and Procedure, Advanced Evidence, Criminal Law and Psychology, Handling the Homicide Case, and Jursidprudence. As part of the Directed Research program, I researched and authored a legal article on the asportation element of kidnapping which was published in the California State Bar Journal in 2011.. In 2010, after forming my own family through adoption and assisted reproduction technology, I left the District Attorney's office and formed a partnership where I could focus on children's law. We specialized in education law, adoptions, assisted reproduction law, and criminal defense of adults and juveniles.. In 2013, I opened Moore Law for Children, where I combine my compassion for family, committment to excellence, and extensive experience to provide outstanding competent legal service to my clients.

My mission to serve and advocate for children began in 1996 when my husband and I adopted our twin girls from Romania. I experienced great difficulty getting the girls the early intervention services they needed. And, after successfully acquiring those services, we still faced the challenge of getting them the free and appropriate public education to which they were entitled.. I understand the challenges that children face in school and the challenges their parents face ensuring that their children receive the education they deserve. The special education learning curve is steep and the time it takes to acquire the knowledge to advocate for them may mean days, weeks or months delay in getting a child the educational services they need.. Let me help you. I know how.
