Eric B. Coleman is a partner in the firm and represents clients in litigation, arbitration, and other dispute-resolution proceedings arising out of the construction and/or ownership of real property and other business disputes. His expertise in navigating the rough waters of litigation while remaining on budget has made him the trusted attorney for many business owners and property management groups. Eric has significant experience in complex, large-scale construction disputes, including the pursuit and defense of claims arising out of defective construction, delays, contractual disputes, prompt-pay claims, and lien enforcement. Eric also has significant experience in litigating business torts such as fraud, business divorces, breach of fiduciary duty, and embezzlement claims. For the small business owner, Eric harnesses the same level of service and expert legal advice his large clients depend on to develop strategic, yet cost-effective solutions catered to the unique challenges every small business faces.. Eric has an AV® Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubble, its highest professional rating. He was named an Atlanta Magazine and SuperLawyers Georgia Rising Star 2013 through 2020. Each year, no more than 2.5% of the lawyers in the state receive this honor. Eric has a 10/10 Avvo rating and is Secretary and Treasurer of the Construction Section of the Atlanta Bar Association.. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sgt. Coleman served as a vehicle commander and dismounted team leader, participating in over 250 combat missions across central Iraq and helping to train and equip the new Iraqi Army. For his service in Iraq, Eric was twice awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Badge among other individual and unit distinctions. Eric joined the Army National Guard as a college freshman, just a few months before the tragedy of 9/11. His deployment in 2005 delayed his entry to law school for two years but generated a lifetime’s worth of experience and camaraderie. Though he no longer wears the uniform of a soldier, Eric continues his service through his focus on veterans’ rights and post-war transitioning for his fellow troops.. Practice Areas:. Corporate litigation, commercial litigation, developer-turnover and construction litigation, business disputes, contracts, and community-association litigation. Admitted to plead and practice in all Georgia Courts, Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Firm: Eric Andrew Coffelt
Practice Areas: Litigation
Eric Coffelt earned his Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law. Prior to that, Eric attended Mercer University, where he studied criminal justice and graduated magna cum laude. While in law school, Eric competed in national mock trial competitions as part of Georgia State's distinguished Student Trial Lawyer's Association, was the Vice President of the Criminal Law Association, and was awarded the prestigious Georgia Civil Justice Foundation Scholarship for Excellence in Trial Advocacy.. Virtually all of Eric's litigation experience has been in the area of criminal defense. His passion for helping those accused of criminal offenses began during law school, where he focused on Trial Advocacy, Advanced Criminal Litigation, and Forensic Evidence. While completing his education, Eric also worked on: death penalty cases in both the trial and appellate divisions of the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender in Atlanta; high profile murder cases with the Maricopa County Public Defender's Office in Phoenix, Arizona; and also worked for the Dekalb County Public Defender's Office in Decatur - where he won his first DUI jury trial before even graduating from law school.. Today, in addition to fighting on behalf of his clients in the courtroom, Eric dedicates much of his time to helping educate the general public about how to preserve and protect their rights when confronted by law enforcement - a mission he tirelessly continues to pursue. Eric has also spent considerable time and effort attempting to influence the debates taking place within and among law enforcement agencies throughout the world. For example, in October of 2010 Eric was a presenter at BIT's First Annual World Congress of Forensics in Dalian, China. At that historic gathering, which was attended by leading forensic experts from all over the world, Eric drew their attention to the ever-growing evidence that fingerprint identification is unreliable, unscientific, and (like most other forms of forensic "science,") has been responsible for many false accusations and wrongful convictions.
