Location: Maryland A woman I know in an abusive relationship wants to leave but is afraid; they have two cars, reportedly both in the husband's name, but one used regularly to get to work by the wife. She said she help pay for the car partially in payments in the past; the first question is can she drive and take the car if she leaves for a shelter? The husband threatened to have her arrested for car theft and has scared her, saying he will call the police etc and have her deported (as she has a removal case pending but is being defended by an immigration firm, the date of the hearing is not for awhile). Can she take the car with her to the shelter? As marital property? SHe is afraid he will send the police after her. Also they have a son that is about 3-5 years old; she is afraid to take him with her as the husband threatened to have her charged with kidnapping; The shelter that will take her said they don't help with Restraining/Protective Orders; I thought the shelters knew these legal issues but they dont. How could someone help her with the restraining order? She is afraid she needs proof; she has taken photos and has affidavits of abusive behavior but is afraid the order. Location: maryland Our shift is from 6 to 2:30 no paid lunch. And basically if you clock in at 6:01 you are now automatically 15 mins late. And you won't be paid for that 15 mins as well. We have a 14 minute window basically of not getting paid. If you clock in at 5:45 you get 15 mins o/t. But clock in at 5:46 and it gets rounded to 6. And actually clocking out is reversed. Clock out at 2:30- 2:44 and it counts as 2:30. Clock out at 2:29 and it gets rounded back to 2:15. I question if this is legal because it doesn't seem right to have to work 14 minutes for no compensation. I could understand a 5minute or so penalty but 15 mins?!

Location: Maryland I work in Maryland and I’m an at-will employee. I have a good work record and positive reviews. A complete stranger doxxed my info and called my workplace multiple times to try to get me fired. And the workplace called the police on behalf of me. I ended up going to law enforcement because I felt like I needed to protect myself and my job. I filed criminal charges against my stalker for harassment and phone misuse, and there will be a trial in a month (State of MD vs. The stalker). I was open with my employer about what was going on from the beginning. I never tried to drag my coworkers into it, but the State later subpoenaed a couple of them as witnesses. Management seemed surprised, but they said they will help. They did say they wanted to protect me. My question is: can I contact the states attorney and quash their subpoena? I know I'm the victim. But I dont want to inconvenience my coworker and get them involved any further. When i filed the complaint my list of witnesses didnt even include their names, i only put down the police officers who helped me. Furthermore, could my job choose to discipline or fire me over this? If I were later fired because I contacted law enforcement, or because my coworkers ended up getting subpoenaed, could that potentially be wrongful termination even though Maryland is an at-will state? A month ago, I was crossing a two-lane highway (US 15) to enter a median area and turn onto the northbound side to get to my job interview. From my stopped position, there was a crest/dip, so I could only see to the point where the roadway rose. I pulled out when it was clear. When I was more than halfway across, a speeding Chevy truck came over/through that dip area, and we had a near miss. I gassed it to get the rest of the way into the median to avoid them crashing into my driver's side door. There was absolutely no contact between our vehicles. I also did not hear or feel an impact. I had watched the truck go past me in my mirror, and there was a big gap between our vehicles at that point, because I had already been parked completely inside the median. I waited a minute to make sure he was okay and watched him continue driving down the road. He didn't slow down or pull over at any point. Location: Maryland Hey everyone, I’m 23 and living in Maryland, and I’m in a really messy situation. I’m trying to get my credit right so I can finally lease my own apartment when I move out of state, but I just hit a massive wall. The Background: When I was 18, my aunt (who I currently live with) used my Social Security Number to open a residential utility account in my name without me knowing. I only found out about this two months ago when debt collectors started contacting my phone. Long story short, the account defaulted, got charged off, and was sold to a third-party collection agency. It's sitting there with an active balance of over $1,500, and it's completely tanking my FICO score. I could probably still get an apartment with my current score, but it'd probably be harder/higher deposit. Active utility collections are basically an automatic denial for most apartment communities around here, so I’m stressing out. The Current Situation: I confronted my aunt about it before it had hit collections. She admitted she did it and that the debt is hers and she would take care of it.
