Location: North Texas My landlord withheld my deposit with-out sending an itemized list of why they withheld my deposit. I moved out July 15 and it’s now August 24 and they’ve ignored all attempted contact, including a formal dispute of charges and the escalation email. I’m pretty sure under Texas law that means they are acting in bad faith and required to pay both a fine and attorney fees. Would it be worth it to file something in small claims court? They were pretty horrible landlords and caused a bunch of issues: unresolved leaks that caused mold growth, neighbors that fired a gun into my apartment but then were not evicted, as well as a fridge that didn’t work for 6 months.

Location: Texas. We had a lease and always paid on time. Good tenants, follow all the rules, are quiet, no complaints about us. As our lease was about to expire we were offered a lease renewal in paper, with no increase. We accepted the lease renewal. Then we were unable to sign the lease digitally because they were having tech problems. I offered to sign physically and they said no. Now it is a couple months later, I have sent numerous emails and made in-person visits to the office where they keep telling me “it’s corporate’s issue”. I have emailed and called whatever contacts I can get. Now they are trying to charge us a higher rent and a month-to-month fee. Heard from one of the office employees that “the new owners” don’t like that some of us tenants got grandfathered in at a lower price. But they have plenty of open units. What should I do? We don’t want to move if possible, but I definitely won’t pay more than they officially offered, or pay any extra rent, late fees for incomplete payment, or month to month fees at this point.

Location: Texas Hi, Long story short, I moved into a boarding house with a bunch of criminals (they’re actually felons and are committing identity theft crimes). Because of this, I went to the local post office and asked them to hold my mail. The clerk explained to me that they would hold just my mail but now I realize they held the whole house’s mail. Note that I have never been to the post office to pick up even my mail yet and would never steal the mail from any of my criminal roommates. Well, unfortunately the clerk didn’t explain to me that everyone’s mail would be held (I realize now that it says it on the name box but I didn’t read it as closely as I should because I was in a panic while doing it because I had discovered their identity theft scheme); well, fast forward to today, and the felon landlord that lives there is pissed and is threatening to press charges against me. Again, I’ve never stolen anyone’s mail - I’ve not even been there to pick up MY OWN MAIL yet from the hold and will now cancel the hold on Monday when they’re open. Here’s my question: can I really get prosecuted for this!? I spoke up about and was ignored, then filed an OSHA complaint, and now he's ghosting me and not giving me any hours. Basically what the title says. I recently started working at a privately owned pet store that specializes in a specific type of animal. The animals are taken care of, but the employees are not. The owner (my boss) asked me a few days after I was hired to give him suggestions on things around the store that can be improved upon, "because women have a better eye for that kind of thing". So I made a list, brought up a few things with him, and he proceeded to make excuses and brush off my suggestions, acting totally surprised that I would even have the audacity to do so. The things I brought up to him? That there wasn't a proper first aid kit, just an old box of bandaids. I tell him that he can find plenty of first aid kits on Amazon (I also was not shown where the "firstaid kit" was, having to find it myself). So, I made a payment arrangement that I would pay my full rent on the 27th through email and it was approved and it says so in my emails through the management group of my apartments. Then I get a notice to quit or pay, I then email and ask if the payment agreement made prior was still valid and they told me they could only wait until the 21st and if on the 21st at 10am it’s not paid they will file for eviction. I then call and try to find out why it was changed and they didn’t really give me an answer they just said they saw the 21st. So I asked about the process for eviction and I need to make my payment before the court date and have next months rent payment paid on time to get the eviction thrown out. But, I wouldn’t be able to pay my rent on the 1st - I wouldn’t be able to pay it on 3rd of September. My question is…how is it possible that they can just change when I have to pay when it was agreed a week or two prior for a later date? He said that it is AI in the email and that he will go back and check it.
