I first became a lawyer because, as corny as it might seem, I was enthralled by watching Perry Mason when I was a young boy. The cool and calm demeanor he exhibited in any situation, his crafty cross examination of witnesses that somehow always led to a confession, and not to mention he won all his cases. While in law school, I volunteered at local legal clinics to help people with everyday legal issues they face, from workplace discrimination to holding a bad landlord accountable. It was during this time that I saw what power the law held to help people, to improve people's lives, and to be a "big stick" when necessary. This is one of the reasons I chose to represent people charged with crimes for a living, because so many of my clients are good people even if they made a mistake. And the U.S. Constitution requires that everyone accused of a crime be entitled to a zealous defense, someone to protect their rights and challenge the government's authority when necessary. This is why I do what I do.. As a former prosecuting attorney and Judge Pro Tem, I have the experience and knowledge needed to successfully represent those accused of crimes, whether it is assault, DUI, suspended license, theft, and all other criminal charges. I also handle hundreds of traffic citations a year with an extremely high success rate. I regularly attend and speak at seminars on trial advocacy, stay up to date on new developments in my field, and provide all the resources my clients need to get them through the process successfully. But I also take pride in my client service, keeping clients updated on their cases' progress and informed of all developments. I am also there 24 hours a day if my clients need a question answered or simply want to discuss their case.. Being charged with a crime can be stressful, emotionally and financially. If you find yourself in this situation, put me in your corner. You will be glad you did.

Firm: Law Office Of Carl J Marquardt
1126 34th Avenue , Seattle , Washington 98122
📍 About 4.8 mi from ZIP 98118
Practice Areas: Class Actions, Consumer Protection, Corporate, Real Estate
As a lawyer in Seattle for over 20 years, Carl Marquardt has been a successful commercial litigator and trial attorney, negotiated complex real estate and business agreements, advised business owners and investors in a wide array of matters, and served in government as the legal counsel to the Mayor of Seattle.. After growing up in Missoula, Montana, Carl graduated from Yale University (1988) and the University of Washington School of Law (1993). He clerked for the Honorable Mary K. Becker, of the Washington State Court of Appeals, from 1994-96, and then joined the Seattle law firm of Stokes Lawrence, P.S., where he practiced from 1997-2007.. As an associate, and later a shareholder at Stokes Lawrence, Carl represented corporate defendants in class action lawsuits around the country, and many local business and real estate owners in disputes in the Seattle area. And like many mid-career litigators, he became increasingly interested in helping clients to structure agreements and navigate problems without resorting to litigation.. In 2007, he opened his own law office, counseling owners and investors in real estate acquisitions and related issues related to closely held businesses in Washington, California, and Arizona.. In 2009, incoming Mayor Michael McGinn asked Carl to serve as his legal counsel. As Legal Counsel for the Mayor from 2010-13, he was responsible for advising the Mayor and the Mayor’s staff on the wide array of issues related to City governance. He served as the Mayor’s lead in overseeing the police and fire departments, negotiating union labor agreements, and in negotiating a Consent Decree with the United States Department of Justice to resolve allegations of police misconduct.. In 2013, Carl returned to private practice, focusing on real estate and business law. In April 2013, he opened an office in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle, where he has lived for many years.. Carl has been an active volunteer throughout his career with the King County Neighborhood Legal Clinics Program, which provides free, drop-in legal advice to King County residents. He served as Chair of the Neighborhood Legal Clinics Committee, which oversees the clinics, from 2006-2009, and was the program’s “Volunteer of the Year” in 2008. He currently serves on the King County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Services Committee, which supports the broader array of pro bono services to County residents.

For more than 35 years, my practice has focused on resolving challenging securities, franchise, banking and other complex civil cases on behalf of businesses and individuals.. I often handle the prosecution and defense of customer claims against investment advisors, broker-dealers and registered representatives. These matters involve claims of unsuitability, churning, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and misrepresentation, particularly before FINRA Dispute Resolution.. I was FINRA’s appointed arbitrator and mediator trainer for the Seattle panel of FINRA arbitrators from 1993-2003. In that capacity, I trained hundreds of arbitrators and mediators around the country. A substantial portion of my practice has been as a FINRA, National Futures Association and NYSE arbitrator and mediator.. Broker Recruitment Litigation. I frequently prosecute noncompetition, non-solicitation and trade secrets disputes for broker-dealers and registered representatives.. Securities and Complex Civil Litigation. I have considerable additional securities litigation experience in the areas of shareholder derivative action, directors’ and officers’ liability, insider trading, corporate governance and internal investigations, mortgage-backed securities and stock option disputes..
