Mitch Howie was born June 12, 1954 at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. He graduated from Huntsville High, Huntsville, Ala. in 1972. He then attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate and the University of Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1980. Upon graduation, he worked for two years in the Gulf of Mexico oil fields. He practiced law in Galveston, Texas, from 1984 until 1988 when he returned to Huntsville, Alabama.
