Aaron Ryan

Firm: Ryan & Rouse, LLC
525 Madison Street SE , Huntsville , Alabama 35801
Practice Areas: Car Accidents
Aaron Ryan grew up in Georgia where he and his twin brother were accomplished athletes on both the gridiron and baseball diamond. Aaron learned from his parents and coaches about the work and commitment it takes to be successful. With roots stretching back to poor and proud farmers of South Carolina, Aaron’s values and integrity were carved into stone by people who cultivated their living from the earth. However, as much as his family history and ethos informed his character, it was a two year missionary commitment in rural Mexico as a young adult that would solidify his path toward law school.. Working in one of the most impoverished villages among our neighbors to the south, Aaron did not speak a word of Spanish when he arrived, and his hosts did not speak a word of English. Yet, it was under these circumstances that he learned to relinquish all that does not matter in this life, and to embrace those things that do: fairness, compassion, fortitude, and a foundational belief in the dignity of every human being.. Though he would become an accomplished financier in his early twenties, Aaron decided to turn his intellect, energy, and drive toward helping others as an attorney. Aaron fights for those who cannot fight for themselves and stands up for those who cannot stand for themselves. When you need a hard working lawyer of integrity and resolve, you will not simply be another client, you’ll become a valued friend.. Aaron now practices in a wide array of matters. Aaron also handles domestic relations matters such as divorces, and represents many Spanish-speaking members of our community. Contact Aaron today so he can get to work for you.. Aaron is a graduate of Augusta State University and Samford University’s Cumberland School of law.

Andrea Cates

Practice Areas: Divorce, Child Custody, Child Support, Alimony, Family, Probate, Criminal Defense, Divorce & Separation, Divorce & Separation, Divorce & Separation, Divorce & Separation, Divorce & Separation, Divorce & Separation
Andrea Roberts (formerly known as Andrea Cates) grew up in Pascagoula, Mississippi and graduated from Pascagoula High School in 2005. After recovering from hurricane Katrina, Andrea joined the United States Navy in 2008. She served in the Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman until she was honorably discharged in 2013. While serving on active duty in the United States Navy Andrea was deployed three times during a time of war, for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Although Andrea had a crucial and critical job in the Navy she was able to obtain her bachelors degree in Criminal Justice while in the Navy. Andrea graduated from ECPI with highest honors, and was valedictorian of her program.. Andrea has always had a deep passion to help others so when she made the decision to leave the Navy she knew her next job had to continue her ability to protect and serve. So after many conversations with her mother she decided it was time for her to follow her dream of becoming a lawyer. Andrea began her law school journey at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and six weeks prior to her first set of law school exams, her mother passed away. Andrea doesn't give up though, she keeps pushing forward. Her very last promise to her mother was that she would work hard and be eligible to transfer to Mississippi College School of Law to complete her second and third year of law school so that she would be able to take care of her full time. Although her mother did not make it, Andrea kept her promise. She transferred to Mississippi College School of Law and she graduated with honors (cum laude). Andrea found the love of her life while in law school, and moved to Alabama after graduation to study for the bar exam.. Andrea sat for the July 2019 bar exam and passed. Her consisitent comment when discussing this, is that her mom is the reason, her mom although in heaven, continues to take care of her. Andrea practiced criminal defense and domestic relations law in Mobile County until April of 2020 when she relocated to Huntsville, Alabama. Andrea practices criminal defense, domestic relations, child custody, and estate planning law in Huntsville, Alabama.. When Andrea is not advocating for her clients she and her husband enjoy taking care of their six dogs, swimming, fishing, hanging out at Leigh Acres and playing board games together. Andrea volunteers at the Huntsville Animal Shelter, and although she has six dogs of her own she fosters dogs from the animal rescue Furget Me Not. Andrea is consistently giving back any way she can to the community.. The same strive, dedication, perservance, hard work, and determination she has shown throughout her Naval career, and her law school journey, she continues in each case. She will fight hard for you and is more than just a lawyer, she is an advocate and more importantly a friend to each and every client she has. If you need help, call Andrea. She returns calls, emails, and texts as soon as they are received. Although her client reviews both on Avvo and Google speak for themselves, Andrea is compassionate, she is always there, and she will always take your calls. When you hire her, your issues become hers, you are able to rest easy because she will carry the worry for you and she always gives her best to achieve the best outcome possible.

Amber James

Firm: New Beginnings Family Law, P.C.
2204 Whitesburg Drive SW , Huntsville , Alabama 35801
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
I believe that representing clients in family law cases is not just a job or an area of law to practice.  I believe it is a calling, a mission given to me by God to help hurting people.  That calling was so crystal clear the night I prayed for guidance.  I did not initially understand what that meant.  I thought God was calling me  to be a personal injury lawyer.  Many of my life experiences had driven me to the point of wanting to be a lawyer, but all those things had lead me to believe I was supposed to be a lawyer who helped physical hurt people find justice.  After I got divorced, met my current husband, and began working for Judge Ferguson, I discovered that no one hurts more than the children who go through a divorce or separation between their parents.  Their parents hurt, but the children hurt more.  The pain, anxiety, depression, guilt, separation, anger, and frustration that these children experience are immeasurable.   Another thing I have noticed in the time I have been practicing law is that I sometimes see clients for more than one case.  I see them over and over, one divorce after another, or one case after another because either their personal, legal, emotional, financial or psychological needs were not resolved completely the first time around.  I also found that parents come out of the divorce or separation process thinking he or she now knows everything he or she needs to know to move forward in a financially sound manner and with a 4 hour trans-parenting class under his or her belt knows everything he or she need to know to successfully co-parent.  Unfortunately, this is not at all the case.. This was evident to me in my own divorce situation.  When I got divorced, my attorney handed me my documents and said, “well you are divorced, good luck.”  As I sat there and looked at those papers, I was heartbroken because in my mind I had failed.  I had failed at being a married person.  However, I was also in law school, working full time, and a single parent at that point.  I felt momentarily reassured that so long as the child support came on time and my son’s father made the house payment on time for the next year as he had agreed to do, I would find a way to trudge through and start my life over again.  Boy was I wrong.  Four months later, when the house payments weren’t being made on time, the child support was late, and I was struggling to make ends meet, I landed in bankruptcy court and had to sign my home back over to the bank.  All I could think at that time was, “why didn’t someone tell me this could happen that this could be my life.”  It was at that point that I felt completely hopeless and alone, and I was frustrated with the whole process.  But, life went on, and I remarried, finished law school and started my practice.  For seven years, I practiced law much the same way as my lawyer had and forgot about all those feelings I had all those years ago.  Recently, at the urging of some very special people in my life, I spent some time in deep reflection and worked with my coach to determine what I really wanted my practice to be like and how I wanted to change the world.  During that time, this new firm came into being.. Clients need solutions today with an eye toward tomorrow, the day after, the month after, the year after, etc.  They need an aftercare program to allow them to have ongoing support, counseling, financial advice, budgeting, etc.  As lawyers, we are not equipped to necessarily deal with all these issues.  However, we should have the resources at our fingertips to get our clients through the process.  We should not see our clients as a number, a file, or a dollar sign.  Each is a unique person who is part of a unique family.  The families have their own unique issues and needs.  These families don’t go away.  They change or morph over time just like an intact family.  Our mission is to move them through the process of separation or divorce in such a manner that when they come out on the other side they have a new beginning for their new unique family situation and know how to live as part of that new family dynamic going forward in a healthy, holistic manner.. Due to my experience working with Judge Ferguson and my own divorce experience, I knew there had to be a better way to practice family law that helped parties resolve disputes, helped children not suffer the negative impact of their parents’ divorces, and helped parties learn from his or her mistakes and move into their future relationships in such a way that mistakes are not repeated.  The service we provide to our clients along with our relationships with preferred outside vendors allows us to help our clients through this horrible time in their lives to find a new beginning for them and their children.. On the other hand, there are couples and singles who want to be parents but cannot do so by regular means.  They struggle with beginning their definition of a family.  The pain of losing a child through miscarriage or not being able to get pregnant even with the help of traditional scientific methods can be so great that it causes lasting grief and depression that impact the family unit he or she or they already have.  However, there are children out there being born everyday who have no one to love them, who are being born to mothers who do love them, so much so that the mother knows that she is not the child’s best option.  There are also children out there who have one good parent but for whatever reason the other biological parent is gone. Then, a great person steps in as a step-parent and says, “hey, I want to be your forever parent, I cannot imagine not being your mom or dad.”  There are also great women out there who would be happy to be a vessel for carrying another couple’s child or children for them so that they can have the family of their dreams.  I want to be there to help these couples create their own new beginning.   Nothing gives  me more joy as a lawyer than bringing a family together.. Our goal is to provide great service to our clients, and in doing so, help our clients grow as people and as parents, put them on the path of changing their family tree for the better, and do so so well that when they hear of a friend or family member in the same or similar situation as theirs that they will want their family and friends to be able to be a part of what we are doing as well.

I am a third-generation native of Madison County, Alabama.  At a young age I was a victim of a crime. The prosecutor in my case had such an impact on my life that I decided from that day forward, that I wanted to be a voice for those that cannot speak for themselves. It is for this reason, I attended law school, while maintaing a full-time job.  I graduated from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Alabama.  I first attended college at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tn on an athletic softball scholarship.  I subsequently, transferred to Calhoun Community College where I received my Associate of Science degree in Corrections in 1994.  Upon completion of my A.S. degree I attended Athens State College, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies in 1997.  Upon graduation, I decided to attend graduate school, and in 1999 I received my Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice.  After working in the legal field for eight years, I took a job as Program Director of the Criminal Justice department at a local college in Huntsville, Alabama.  In 2012 I made the decision to run for public office, where i was a candidate for Probate Judge of Madison County.  In 2012 I started Law School at Birmingham School of Law. I took both weeknight and weekend classes, and maintained a full-time job during law school.  I graduated from Law School in 2016, and was admitted to practice law in Decmeber 2018 as a member of the Alabama State Bar.

I became an attorney to help people. As a consumer protection attorney, I now have the privilege of making a real difference in the lives of everyday individuals by helping them take control of their financial future.. Many consumers have no idea what is being said about them on their credit reports or how that information affects their ability to get a home, car, job, or loan. Inaccurate credit reporting can quietly devastate a person’s life. I work to uncover those errors, challenge unfair practices, and hold companies accountable under the law.. Improving someone’s creditworthiness isn’t just about numbers, it’s about restoring dignity, opening doors, and giving people the financial opportunity they deserve. That’s what drives me every day.
