Major Howie worked tirelessly as a contracts attorney reviewing government contracts valued at over 25 million dollars.. Major Howie expertly prosecuted criminals and worked diligently as a trial attorney in litigating the government's case to secure convictions and justice in 17 courts martial. His recent litigation included a trial that led to the only life sentence ever adjudged at Pope Air Force Base. Major Howie acted as the government's representative and gifted advocate in countless administrative proceedings and ensured justice for the government and all parties involved.. Mr. Howie also served as Special Assistant to the United States Attorney within the Department of Justice. In this position as the sole federal prosecutor, he personally prosecuted over 300 federal cases ranging from a wide array of criminal offenses to include: minor traffic offenses; larceny offenses, theft offenses; drug offenses; domestic violence offenses; Driving Under Influence litigation (DUI), Driving While Impaired litigation; Child Neglect litigation and Child Abuse litigation.. An Intoduction to S.A. "Bud" Watson by Ralph Hornsby, Jr.. Bud attended undergraduate school at Harding University in Arkansas and the University of Louisiana, Monroe. He graduated from the University of Alabama, School of Law in 1966. He clerked for a Circuit Judge. After his clerkship he became an Assistant District Attorney and, less than one year later, at the age of twenty-six, he was promoted to Chief Assistant District Attorney. Because of success in that role he was elected without opposition as a District Judge at age 29. Two years later at age 31, he was promoted to Circuit Judge. Judge Watson served until retirement in good standing at age 45. He has served by special appointment as Judge on the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. He also served as a Special Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and authored the Court’s opinion. Bud is a graduate of the National Judicial College and was later a Faculty Adviser there.. Following retirement from the bench, Bud again distinguished himself as a trial attorney. Because Bud has participated in over 650 jury trials as a judge, prosecutor, and civil trial attorney, he has been able to give me insights into trial strategies I could never have obtained elsewhere. He is called on regularly by lawyers all across the nation for consultation on trial strategies. Since 1997, Bud has been on the Trial Advocacy Training Faculty at Louisiana State University Law School where he teaches courtroom skills to senior law students. I grew up in Huntsville and other than my 8 years of higher education have lived here all of my life.  I am a third generation graduate of Huntsville High.. I have been very involved in the Huntsville community by volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Huntsville Rotary Club (which is one of the 50 largest clubs in the world, which includes over 36,000 clubs), American Red Cross, Kids' Space Playground, Huntsville Youth Hockey Association and various youth sports.. I helped spearhead a Rotary Project to support a Pediatric Oncology Hospital in Guatemala which ended up providing $75,000 for infusion pumps and equipment for the hospital which treats indigent patients in Guatemala.. I was elected to the Huntsville City School Board in 2002 and 2006 winning every box and 72% of the vote in 2006.  I have served as President of the Board for the last 5 years on the Board.  My term will expire in October and I am not seeking re-election (8 years is enough!).. I referee ice hockey and was selected to work the 1994 NCAA Division II Men's Championship in Huntsville and have worked a Boston Bruin Training Camp game as well as numerous youth championships across the Southeast and Washington, D.C.. I have 2 sons (8 and 12 years old) who are very active in baseball, football, basketball and soccer.  We enjoy going to high school and college athletic events when we are not going to their sports.
