The Difference. My law practice is different than many others because it's dedicated solely to criminal defense and medical marijuana law. So, I'm not spread out with multiple areas of practice like a lot of other attorneys.. Secondly, I'm able to give personal, one-on-one attention to my clients. I do this first with a free initial consultation. You won't have your case assigned to a junior attorney or have little contact with me, leaving you wondering what's going on with your case.. Criminal Defense. I've been representing people with legal needs for nearly two decades. But the number of years that an attorney has practiced isn't the only important experience factor. You'll get an attorney with the RIGHT KIND of experience. When it comes to being charged with a crime, you want someone who focuses on criminal defense. Think about it. Would you hire a divorce attorney to handle your criminal charge? Of course not.. You'll get a strategic fighter. I aggressively represent my clients. I dig into the evidence or the lack of it. I look for holes in the prosecutor's case and I work to get unfavorable evidence thrown out. I rock the boat and challenge the prosecutor and law enforcement while still adhering to professionalism and ethical practices.. Medical Marijuana Law. Oklahomans legalized medical marijuana in June 2018 through the approval of State Question 788 (SQ 788). But I was way ahead of the game. Even before SQ 788 passed, I was a Legal Committee member of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), and I still am today. I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in marijuana law well before SQ 788 passed. And, I have knowledge and experience with the new medical marijuana laws and regulations. I even offer compliance auditing services for Oklahoma medical marijuana dispensaries, growers and processors.. The Bottom Line. So, when you hire me, you know that you have a knowledgable, experienced and skilled attorney on your side. Call me at to schedule your free initial consultation. I am orignially from Fairbanks, AK, a blue collar town in the middle of nowhere. Growing up in an atmosphere like Fairbanks contributed alot to the person that I am today. It instilled in me a strong work ethic, even in highschool if you weren't working 60 hrs a week during the summer time then your friends would joke that you had an easy job, that carries over to my practice today. Growing up in Fairbanks also instilled a sense of self reliance and a drive to overcome obtacles that has stayed with me through out my life.. Many people ask "How'd you end up all the way down here in Oklahoma?" My family is orginally from Oklahoma going all the back to the land rush days. My parents, grandparents, and Aunt and Uncle all moved to Alaska in the late 70's to pursue new oppurntunities in the last frontier. After highschool I spen several years playing Junior hockey and finally had to realize that a sports career was never going to pay the bills. Upon that realization I knew I had to look to a career and didn't want to work in the bitter cold of the oild fields of Northern Alaska. My sister was attending OU at the time and filled out an application for me and it came back that I was accepted, so off I went.. I graduated from OU in 4 years and then attended the University of Tulsa College of Law where I graduated in 2006. I had orginally planned to move to Washington State to be closer to home and passed the bar examination there before deciding that I would return to OKlahoma. I was licensed to practice law in OKlahoma in 2007 and immediately began working as an Assisstant Attorney General for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. I worked for the Nation for approximately 1 1/2 years before leavine to open up my own firm in 2008.. I have tried over a dozen jury trials, in both state and federal court, from misdemeanor assault and battery cases to a death penalty case. I am constantly trying to improve my trial skills by attending various seminars (e.g. Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College Death Penalty Course, Colorado Method of Voir Dire in Boulder colorado as well as the Pat Williams Criminal Defense Institute).. I am currently married and have 2 children.. My practice focuses entirely on criminal law and I am dedicated to protecting the rights of my clients above all else.

601 S. Boulder Ave. , Tulsa , Oklahoma 74119
Practice Areas: Criminal Defense
Steven D. Swant takes his role as an advocate very seriously. He understands that when he is retained to represent a person, his function as Attorney and Counselor at Law is to act as that person’s voice in the courtroom and to counsel that person as to the best course of action considering all factors that may potentially affect the course of their life. Mr. Swant believes very strongly that people have the right to live their lives free of unreasonable government actions. The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures, and requires that warrants be supported by probable cause and issued by a judge. Mr. Swant challenges cases based on these unwarranted intrusions into a person’s home, vehicle or on the person’s body. Mr. Swant will not recommend that his client enter a guilty plea unless he feels that the prosecuting agency has the necessary evidence to prove them guilty. In cases that the client will likely be proven guilty if the evidence were presented to a judge or jury, Mr. Swant advocates on behalf of his clients to obtain deferred sentences that will not result in a conviction, provided that the client follows the rules of probation. Mr. Swant also negotiates to lessen the length of probationary terms, and to minimize the amount of financial obligations incurred by the client. Mr. Swant attended Oklahoma State University and obtained a B.S. in Finance, and then earned a law degree at the University of Tulsa College of Law.
