His case has been pushed out a few times, and without going into a lot of detail the police department is refusing to release the police report to his defense attorney. His attorney is not a public defender, so maybe that has something to do with it? He’s requested it many times, but they always refuse. Does anyone have any clue as to why they wouldn’t give it to his attorney?

Location: Utah My FIL was arrested earlier this year and is waiting for the defense and prosecution to either work out a plea deal or take the case to trial. Right now he is facing: 2 first degree felonies for Attempted Sodomy on a Child. 3 second degree felonies for Enticing a minor The background is that he was chatting with a man online who was actually an undercover cop. He agreed to meet up with him and the UC’s 13 yo Nephew for intercourse. When he arrived it was arrested and taken to jail. My FIL is a Canadian citizen who has been living in the United States since 1995 with legal permanent resident status. This is his first experience with any law enforcement, so my question is: Given the severity of his crime, what are the chances he is deported after his sentence is finished? Is he more likely to get deported if he pleads guilty than if he were to plead no contest or does that even matter?
