Daniel Cook

Firm: Alliance Law Group PS
5316 Orchard Street W , University Place , Washington 98467
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
A mentor once told me that when you start law school, you do not realize that many of the clients you will serve are coming to see you at the lowest point in their lives.  That has proven to be sage advice.  I have served clients who are charged with a crime, who have just experienced the loss of a loved one, and who are going through a divorce or separation.  I have had the opportunity to help clients through happier times as well, such as adoptions, and sometimes my work involves trying to avoid problems in the future, such as estate planning.  But overall, I understand that most often clients are coming to see me in times of crisis.  A figurative “earthquake” has happened in their lives, and I strive to guide my clients through the recovery process by serving as a zealous and objective legal advocate and counselor.. Family Law is a passion for me.  I started my career at a law firm which exclusively handled domestic relations work.  Since then, I have moved to a general practice law firm which has been established in Pierce County for more than 60 years.  This gives me the opportunity to work with other cases outside of Family Law, but I still devote approximately 80% of my practice to domestic relations cases.  I love the interaction with people that Family Law brings and the challenge of problem solving it entails.  Serving  as a Pro Tem Commissioner in the Pierce County Superior Court for four or five days, and sometimes more, each year during the last four years has broadened my perspective and helps me give my clients seasoned advice since I have seen many cases from the "other side" of the bench.  This helps provide advice on probable outcomes should they go to court.. While virtually all cases involve some sort of court appearance by the attorney, most Family Law cases settle without a full contested trial.  I work very hard with clients and opposing counsel or parties to resolve their cases short of trial.  The clients often benefit by keeping their fees lower and controlling the outcome of their case.  I strive to make sure my client is fully educated about their options and there are those cases which cannot settle and strategic advocacy is required all the way through trial.  I enjoy being in the courtroom and am happy to roll up my sleeves and provide you with a spirited representation at trial and even on appeal if necessary.  I have tried many cases over the years at the Superior Court level, and have handled several cases in the Court of Appeals.  I have successfully defended positive and overturned negative outcomes from trial on Appeal.. It is also a pleasure to handle certain cases outside of the Family Law context.  I feel it to be a great compliment when clients I have helped in a domestic case return and ask me to assist them in another area of law, providing services which could range from, among other things,  preparing a will, defending them in a civil suit, or drawing up real estate agreements.. I appreciate the opportunity to serve clients with a wide range of legal needs, and I value the trust they place in my counsel and representation.  I look forward to continuing to provide compassionate and vigorous advocacy for many years to come.

Daniel Harris

Firm: Harris Sliwoski LLP
600 Stewart St , Seattle , Washington 98101
Practice Areas: International Law
For more than twenty years, I have been representing companies doing business in emerging market countries. I have found that the most important thing in conducting legal work in an emerging market country is to take nothing for granted and to work with the right people. It has taken me many years to build up my worldwide network, and it takes constant communication and travel to maintain it. My work has been as varied as securing the release of two improperly held helicopters in Papua New Guinea, setting up a legal framework to move slag from Canada to Poland's interior, overseeing hundreds of litigation and arbitration matters in Korea, and seizing fish product in China to collect a long overdue debt by a Russian company. For other examples of my work, please check out the "representative work" page on my firm's website at . I was named as one of only three Washington State Amazing Lawyers in International Law; I am AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory (its highest rating); I am rated 10.0 on AVVO, its highest rating, and I am a "Super Lawyer" for International Law. I am widely recognized as a leading expert on legal issues related to conducting business in emerging markets. Major media outlets such as Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, The BBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Economist, CNBC, and The New York Times frequently seek my insights.. As a prolific writer and speaker on international law, I focus on safeguarding businesses involved in foreign operations. My expertise has earned me the rare distinction of being named a “Super Lawyer,” underscoring my prominence in the legal field.. I am also the founder and principal writer of the China Law Blog, which is celebrated as one of the premier law blogs globally. Daniel Gerl

Firm: NextLaw PLLC
950 Broadway , Tacoma , Washington 98402
Practice Areas: DUI & DWI
I am the Founder and Managing Attorney of NextLaw PLLC in Tacoma. Prior to that, I founded and served as CEO of Puget Law Group LLP for over a decade, leading it to become the largest Criminal and Injury law firm in the Pacific Northwest, if not the West Coast. I am a former prosecuting attorney with nearly twenty years' experience handling DUI and other criminal cases in the Puget Sound area and beyond. I went to law school with the goal of becoming a prosecutor and began my legal career with the Skagit County Prosecutor's Office, where I handled several jury trials before graduating cum laude from Seattle University School of Law in 2005. After passing the Bar, I continued working as a prosecutor for several years in Federal Way and Pierce County, handling hundreds of DUI and criminal cases.. Over time I realized that, despite a high percentage of success at trial, I was more interested in helping people than I was in prosecuting them. I left the prosecutor's office in 2010 and went into private practice with Park Chenaur, a Personal Injury firm, where I handled both criminal defense and personal injury cases. In 2013, I went out on my own to start my own firm, Gerl Law PLLC. In 2016 I rebranded as Puget Law Group.. In 2019, Puget Law Group became a partnership, with a goal to develop a Personal Injury practice alongside our Criminal Defense practice.. Over the next five years, I led PLG to become the fastest growing Criminal and Injury Law Firm in America (Inc. 5000, Law Firm 500) and the fastest growing law firm of any kind in Washington state. For the past few years we've been listed among the Inc. 5000 "Fastest Growing Companies in America," the Puget Sound Business Journal's "Fastest Growing Private Companies in Washington," and Law Firm 500's "Fastest Growing Law Firms in America." Under my leadership, we were voted "Best in the PNW" in four categories by the Seattle Times.. In January 2024 I left PLG to found NextLaw PLLC. Specializing in the same practice areas as before, but with a renewed focus on and commitment toward the client experience.. I am a member of the Washington State Bar Association and Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association. I am licensed to practice law in courts throughout Washington in both State and Federal Court.. In my spare time I enjoys sports, cars, graphic design, barbecuing, and being dad to three boys aged 16, 10, and 4.

Daniel Fjelstad

Practice Areas: Employment & Labor , Insurance , Personal Injury, Workers Compensation, Insurance, Insurance, Insurance, Insurance
I consider myself lucky to have spent a career in a field to which I was attracted as a child, and which still provides me with plenty of reasons to look forward to going to work each day. Throughout my career, I have focused on representing individuals, rather than corporations. My clients have come from all walks of life, and all parts of the world. People of every personality type have walked through my door. I have represented both homeless people and corporate executives, proponents of civil disobedience as well as law enforcement officials. Despite their differences, the people I have represented have shared one thing in common: something to which they are entitled has been denied. Trying to restore what has been taken away from them keeps me motivated.. I have spent most of my life and all of my career in the Pacific Northwest, which I love. I was raised in various parts of Alaska and Washington, My first job was picking blueberries and raspberries in Whatcom County, just south of the Canadian border. Then, it was work in orchards in central Washington and construction in Southeast Alaska. In such work, I became familiar with what it’s like to put in a 12- or 14-hour day. Such work also taught me that I’m not all that good working with my hands, so I had best figure out something to do that didn’t require such skills. The law beckoned.. After law school, I went into private practice. I left Scott, Kinney, Fjelstad & Mack in 2016 after 25 years to start my own practice. Aside from having a difficult boss, I am liking the challenge and freedom a solo practice provides. I can take the cases I want to take, and pursue the causes I want to pursue. And, of equal importance, I don’t have to make any excuses to anyone if I want to take off to go flyfishing, and I can play a guitar in my office, if the mood were to strike. I would, however, need to shut the door. I do, of course, have neighbors.. After nearly 30 years of working as a lawyer, I understand that people aren’t coming to see me because all is right in their world. Rather, they need help trying to fix something that’s gone wrong, something that the law might remedy. I may not be able to fix all the problems that come to me, but I will bring the same client-centered approach to trying to fix such problems that guided me when I started in this profession.
