Katherine Sierra-Kelly has represented clients with issues surrounding family law. She has also worked extensively as a Guardian Ad Litem representing the interests of children in dissolution matters as well as adults who may be incapacitated. Her goal is to work closely with her clients and help them through this difficult time because she understands what it’s like to be lost in a process you know nothing about and have to rely on someone else for guidance. She understands that these types of proceedings are often emotionally charged and deal with some of the most precious things anyone can focus on, one’s children. She focuses on each individual’s unique needs and recognizes that there is no “one size fits all” approach. Katherine seeks to find amicable resolutions for her clients whenever possible and attempts to minimize conflict and reduce costs for her clients while obtaining the best possible outcome. However, she also believes in holding those accountable when they are dishonest or seek to take advantage of her clients.. Katherine Sierra-Kelly was born into a military family and settled in the Tri-City area in 1994. She is a graduate of Upper Columbia Academy, and Walla Walla University where she graduated cum laude in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. She spent a year with Americorp where she helped needy families in Seattle before attending Seattle University’s School of Law where she graduated in 2007 with her Juris Doctorate.. Katherine returned home to the Tri-City area after being admitted to the Washington State Bar in 2007 and began working at Chvatal Law Office with her focus being on family law. She moved to Gravis Law, PLLC in 2017 and her practice continues to focus on family law and mediation. She is currently living in Richland with her husband and three boys. Katherine is an avid Seattle Seahawks Season Ticket Holder and enjoys spending time working out in the gym to keep up with her three boys.. Katherine is also a registered Title 11 and Title 26 Guardian Ad Litem in Benton and Franklin counties. Katherine is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Family Law Section; American Bar Association, Family Law Section and; Benton Franklin Bar Association; Benton Franklin County Bar Trustee (2013-2015 & 2019- current), a member of the Benton Franklin Legal Aid Board, Domestic Violcence Services of Benton and Franklin County Board Member, Collaborative Professionals of Washigton Board Member, and a member of the Guardian Ad Litem selection committee for Benton and Franklin Counties

As an attorney, I like to operate off of the best information available. Sometimes the legal system is overly complicated and clients should understand all decisions they are making as they proceed in an amicable or contentious divorce. The vast majority of my cases involve domestic violence, custody, de facto parentage, legal and dissolution. I have experience working with clients who have complex matters that involve criminal matters, CPS, and concurrent civil cases.

I grew up in Sammamish, Washington. I love the beautiful northwest and am excited to be working close to home. Family has always been important to me. My parents, who both worked as volunteers to improve education standards in Washington State, taught me the value of being involved in my community. Following their example, I decided to seek a career where I could be of service to others. I spent eighteen months in Guatemala where I participated in humanitarian work and learned to love Latin American culture and the Spanish language. After I returned, my love of reading and writing naturally led me to study law at Brigham Young University. While in law school, I became a Lead Editor for BYU Law Review. As a Lead Editor, I worked with law professors around the country to publish professional articles. I love using the legal writing skills that I developed through this experience to persuasively advocate for others. I am excited now to be a member of Ashby Law's legal team. I am happy to be part of a network of experienced attorneys that is focused on helping families with hard work and compassion.

I am passionate about being a strong advocate for clients during challenging times in their lives. I understand how important family is, and will work with you to protect your rights and interests without adding unnecessarily to the stress, animosity, and chaos that can affect a family going through a divorce, custody disagreement, or other legal action. My practice welcomes all clients, but has a particular emphasis on addressing the unique needs of survivors of domestic violence, military families, and LGBTQ families facing discrimination or extra hurdles.. Happy times can be challenging too, and I enjoy helping families that are expanding through adoption or assisted reproduction, as well as working out agreements between new partners who want to avoid future conflict.. I am an active volunteer with the King County Bar Association’s Neighborhood Legal Clinics and the Center for Children & Youth Justice's Lawyers Fostering Independence initiative, and I am dedicated to helping lower-income clients access legal help as a member of the Washington State Bar Association’s Moderate Means Program. (Sliding-scale fee structure based on income and family size for households between 200% to 400% of the federal poverty guidelines.)

As a family law attorney, my job is to listen to you so I can turn your story into a strategy and solution. My professional area of interest is representing people who are involved in high conflict parenting and financial disputes. I know what to do and how to get a client through the process. I am effective in settling cases and in court because I know the law and how to present the facts of my client's case. A good client for me is one who wants a lawyer with my type of straighforward style. My areas of practice include:. I am expanding my practice to to serve as a mediator in low cost mediations for people without attorneys. It is better to settle your case than have a judge make decisions for you. I believe that my style allows people to be heard and work through the tough issues to get to those final orders.
