Kelby Monks began his successful legal career shortly after earning his juris doctorate. Just before he joined the team of personal injury attorneys at The Idaho Advocates, he proudly finished his degree at the University of Idaho College of Law.. Prior to graduation, Kelby worked as an intern for the Idaho Supreme Court. The internship allowed him to work directly with the Honorable Justice Robin Brody, where he explored the ins and outs of the state’s supreme court. He practiced scripting bench memorandums and drafted original copies of opinion statements. Kelby also spent time in law school working as a law clerk at a local firm. He had the opportunity to handle several types of cases, mostly involving personal injury and medical malpractice, which helped him gain valuable legal insight.. Born and raised in Treasure Valley, Kelby has started a family of his own with his wife, their child, and a soon-to-be-expecting baby. He loves spending time with his family, as it reminds him of his own childhood. And while he serves the role as a family man, he’s equally as passionate about being involved with Idaho’s legislative community. I have practiced law in California since 2005, and in Idaho since 2019. I have worked in the business transactions department at Hawley Troxell, the largest law firm in Idaho, as well as in the litigation trenches of state and federal courts in California and Idaho. I have tried over 40 cases through verdict, over 30 of which were jury trials. I've represented clients in millions of dollars worth of deal transactions. I have also trained and assisted lawyers with less trial experience in trial and witness preparation and strategy. I volunteer as pro bono counsel for Family Advocates / CASA.. I went to the University of Michigan for my undergraduate degree, and Michigan State University for law school. I graduated law school with a Cum Laude honors designation, and a Corporate Law Concentration.. I married with two (almost three) children and two dogs. I grew up in a family of autoworkers in a small farming town in Michigan. I was the first in my family to graduate college and attend law school. My childhood was spent raising horses, cleaning stalls, and breaking ice out of water buckets in cold Michigan winters. I grew up drag racing my father's 1972 Plymouth Duster that, to this day, has less than 30,000 original miles (a quarter mile at a time). I have fully restored a 1972 Westsail 32 sailboat, driven a dirt bike across Patagonia, South America, and studied Spanish in Barcelona, Spain. I enjoy coding in Javascript (VueJS), woodworking, and MIG welding in my workshop. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family..
