In 2012 I worked for the Washington United for Marriage campaign, successfully defending Washington State’s Marriage Equality law at the ballot box.  While I am excited about winning this crucial civil right, I recognize we still have work to do to achieve equality.. I presented at the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association’s annual Juvenile Law seminar in 2009 and 2011 and my run for the Oregon State Senate was fueled by my dissatisfaction with the juvenile and criminal justice systems.. Maria was raised in Guatemala for the first eight years of her life. In 1994, she moved to the United States with her mother.
