His parents moved to Warden Washington when the Corp of Engineers built the East Low Canal bringing irrigation to the Columbia Basin.. Craig began working since the age of five, weeding sugar beets on his family farm. Most of his youth was spent tending the potatoes, wheat, peas and alfalfa crops; also raising cattle.
