It all boils down to your core value. My core value is to leave the world a better place for my children.. I handle cases in personal injury, insurance denials in health insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance to right a wrong.. Fighting against insurance companies so that my clients get the medical care, benefits, and money that they need is how I right some of the wrongs in this world.. Insurance companies like to deny claims when people are too sick or hurt to fight. I combine old-fashioned hard work, skill, and experience with the latest technology to fight for my clients when they are at their lowest point.. There is nothing lower than taking advantage of someone. The elderly is at risk, even from members of their own family. I also do probate litigation and will sue people that take advantage of the elderly, whether they are family members or not. I will challenge a will or sue to recover assets taken improperly. I will also defend frivolous attempts to make a claim on an estate when relatives come out of the woodwork after a loved one dies.

I am experienced in multi-jurisdictional asset recovery and judgment enforcement both in the US and across non US jurisdictions. During my almost two decades of practice, I have litigated regularly in federal, bankruptcy, appellate and state courts across the country, representing investors, companies, bankruptcy trustees, institutions, and individuals. I have prosecuted cross-border arbitral and judgment enforcement actions, fraudulent transfer actions, commercial business disputes, complex real estate litigation, fraud claims, bankruptcy avoidance, recovery, dischargeability and discharge actions and many other types of cases. Many of my cases have involved novel and complex legal issues and theories, complicated factual circumstances, difficult procedural, evidentiary and discovery issues and jurisdictional and cross-border conflicts.

I am a fourth generation native Floridian. My undergraduate degree is in accounting from the University of South Carolina.( a gamecock). After graduation, I served in the United States Treasury Department as a special Agent with the Intelligence Division. I recieved special training in Washington DC in basic law enforcement techniques including interrogation, surveillance, photography, forensics, photography, wiretapping and basic criminal investigation. I understand how law enforcement thinks.. I recieved additional training in Income Tax Law, especially the criminal statutes. I worked in the Miami office investigating organized crime, general tax crimes and on occasions was detailed for special security work.. While working as an agent, I obtained a law degree from the University of Miami. I then transferred to Atlanta Georgia and worked for a year as an analyst for the Regional Commisioner of Intelligence. I returned to South Florida in 1971 and joined the United States Attorneys Office where I prosecuted all types of Federal crimes, particuarly white collar crime and tax evasion. I appeared before numerous grand juries and prosecuted successfully numermous federal crimes.. In 1974 I joined the law firm of Cohen and Hogan on South Beach. It was probably one of the top criminal firms in Florida. While there I had the occasion to meet and advise a number of high profile defendants including Jimmy Hoffa.. In 1974 I moved to Ft. Lauderdale where I continued to represent high profile clients from the labor unions including the Operating Engineers. I defended rackateering and gambling cases many of which included tax charges. In the late 1970's my practice included repesentation of major drug smugglers from within the United States, the Bahamas and Columbia. As my reputation grew, my practice expanded and I traveled extensively across the United States defending complex Federal cases in Los Angeles, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.. During that time I defended literally every type of criminal case for drug conspiracies, money laundering, securities fraud, wire and mail fraud, high seas violations, wildlife crimes and bribery. I represented many of the judges who came under investigation in Miami and my clientel has included everything from Gangsters to the Clergy. I have seen it all.. In 2002 I expanded my practice to include the West Coast of Florida and formed a partnership with a local attorney in Ft. Myers by the name of Sean O'Halloran. He was a former prosecutor in Lee and Charlotte County and my Federal experience and his State experience formed the perfect team. In 2011, I moved to Sarasota where I manage the Aiken and O'Halloran Sarasota office. My emphasis in the last three years has been in defending sex crimes, particularly Federal Internet crimes. I have represented defendants in the television series "to Catch a Predator" as well as the last two "Operations Intercept" in Sarasota. I now travel throughout Florida representing people charged in both State and Federal Court.

Perhaps one the main reasons I enjoy my practice defending businesses is that law is not my first “career.” In fact, law wasn’t even the second. Before I decided to become an attorney, I had already worked in and for businesses for almost a dozen years. I’ve heard people say they “enjoyed law school” – although, frankly, it is not something I have heard that all that often. After spending years in the work force handling leadership roles, teambuilding, solving problems, and making decisions, going “back to school” was different and, at times, humbling. While I am glad that law school is far behind me now, I enjoyed serving as Managing Editor of Law Review and am still proud that I received various awards, such as Outstanding Oral Advocacy.. I have spent the last almost 14 years defending lawsuits brought against manufacturers, insurance companies, and other businesses. Most of these cases involved allegations of product liability, personal injury, and/or premises liability. Along the way, I have drawn upon my background of leadership, service, and teamwork. I have attained awards, such as being selected as a Rising Star by Florida Super Lawyers three consecutive years. I have been inducted into the International Association of Defense Counsel, which according to its website is comprised of a worldwide membership of 2,500 invitation-only peer-reviewed leading corporate and insurance lawyers. I was selected as a Florida Legal Elite in 2013. I was recently appointed to The Florida Bar’s Senior Lawyers Committee. I am also an active member of the Transportation Lawyers Association, where I enjoy my work as Chair of the Diversity Sub-Committee.. Our firm is, by design, a small boutique firm in downtown Orlando, Florida. Our firm practices throughout Florida, in every federal district, as well as major (and minor) metropolitan areas. I am licensed to practice before the Courts of Florida, all three U.S. Districts in Florida, the 11th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. I am a Certified Litigation Management Professional, certified by the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance after a focused program at Columbia Law School.. It is suggested that I include something about myself in addition to my education, experience, awards, and such. I am often told by clients and colleagues on both sides of the little “v” that I am good at what I do – perhaps that is because after over 30 years of working in and for businesses I have the experience and comfort level to enjoy what I do. The shelves in my office are filled some awards – but mostly with pictures of people I love, my pets, some select books, and one plaque I was awarded over 20 years ago which, while simple, still inspires me: “Leadership: Leaders are like eagles. They don’t flock; you find them one at a time.” I have learned that leadership is not often easy but the reward is, indeed, worth it.
